Sequitur Labs announces new IoT Security Suite for Microchip’s SAMA5D2 ARM® Cortex® A5-based MPU enabling trusted boot, secure storage and more

SEATTLE, April 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ - Acknowledging the rapidly growing need for Internet of Things (IoT) security, Sequitur Labs Inc. and Microchip Technology Inc. today announced an IoT Security Suite for the Microchip SAMA5D2 microprocessor unit (MPU). The Suite makes it easy for IoT device manufacturers to implement advanced security technologies available from both companies. The joint solution enables device OEMs to use hardware-based isolation and cryptography while dramatically lowering the investment and effort required for development. The Suite addresses the most common needs of customers making IoT products, namely the need to maintain device and application integrity through the product’s life cycle and communicate securely with other devices and IoT cloud applications.

The IoT Security Suite enables device makers to deploy:

  • Trusted boot – Root of trust verified initial startup code, Linux® and other embedded firmware.
  • IP protection – Encryption of embedded firmware and execution of authenticated firmware.
  • Trusted device ID – Unique device certificate tied to root of trust for strong identity authentication.
  • Secure storage – Unique and encrypted storage of code and data in in-system storage.
  • Secure communications – Authenticate and ensure the privacy of communications to cloud devices and servers.
  • Secure firmware update – Remotely upgrade MPU firmware safely and securely.

The Suite covers security scenarios common to many connected devices and industries. Products such as IoT gateways, thermostats, cleaning robots, access control and alarm systems can use the Suite to implement secure processes for device pairing and communicating with IoT cloud platforms.

The IoT Security Suite is pre-configured to give developers rapid access to the advanced hardware security features of the SAMA5D2 MPU. This includes the ability to implement a secure enclave based on proven ARM® TrustZone® technology as well as features such as Secure SRAM, hardware encryption engines and true random number generator. The Suite enables developers to work within a familiar environment such as Linux while using the application program interfaces (APIs) supplied by the Suite to implement the above-mentioned capabilities. In doing so, the Suite dramatically reduces the learning curve often associated with implementing security.

Evaluation and Pricing

Sequitur Labs makes available to customers a free evaluation version of the IoT Security Suite targeted for Microchip’s ATSAMA5D2B-XULT board. The software evaluation kit is available for download from Sequitur Labs’ website at http://www.sequiturlabs.com/iot-security-suite/iss-registration/. A commercial license for initial product development and an additional one for production purposes are available from Sequitur Labs. Initial product pricing is designed to encourage rapid adoption and widespread use of the advanced security features of Microchip’s SAMA5D2 processor. During the introductory period, the pricing for Sequitur Labs’ Microchip-direct customers is $5,000 for a software development kit and $15,000 for a production license. The production license is valid for unlimited production volumes of a single product.
